Homonationalism

Homonationalism is an ideological discourse that links the defense of LGBTQ+ rights with a vision of the moral superiority of Western societies. This approach uses progress in sexual and gender rights as an indicator of civilization to contrast it with cultures, often non-Western and especially from countries with predominantly Muslim populations, which are portrayed as backward or intolerant. This narrative serves to legitimize xenophobic attitudes or policies, disguising them as concern for freedom and equality.
